7 Voices Worth Waking Up To (and What to Ask Them to Say)

2026-10-16

An alarm tone tells you it's time. A voice tells you someone cares that you get up. That small difference is why so many people swap the beep for a recording. If you're not sure whose voice to use, here are seven that work, and what to ask each person to say.

1. Your partner

The obvious one, and the best if you're long-distance. Ask for something specific to the two of you rather than a generic "good morning." Your plans for the weekend, a nickname, or a countdown to your next visit.

2. Mom or Dad

Most of us already have a parent's wake-up line burned into memory. Ask them to say it exactly the way they used to. It's comforting, and surprisingly effective.

3. Your kid

A giggle, a song, or "wake up, it's morning!" It's very hard to hit snooze on that. Recordings also turn into a keepsake: in a year you'll have a library of how their voice used to sound.

4. A best friend

Friends are good for tough love. "You said you'd go to the gym. Go to the gym." Pick the one who won't let you off the hook.

5. Grandparents

A short message from a grandparent is something you'll be glad to have saved. It doesn't need to be long. Just their voice, saying your name.

6. Yourself, last night

Record a message to tomorrow's you before bed. You know exactly why you set that alarm, and morning-you has forgotten. "Interview at nine. You prepared. Get up."

7. A coach or mentor

If someone's encouragement got you through a hard stretch, ask them for ten seconds of it. Wake up to the voice that believes you can do the thing.

How to set it up

With MorningVoice, you can record up to 60 seconds yourself and keep the best 30 as your alarm. Or send a link so someone else can record from any browser, no app needed. Then set a time and the days to repeat. Give different alarms different voices, and swap them out whenever you like.

Recordings stay on your device, with no account and no ad tracking. Please ask before using anyone's voice. MorningVoice is free and works on iOS 26 or later.
